CUE THE MONTAGE

BORN AND RAISED in the vibrant, bustling heart of London, I was that kid who danced to the beat of her own drum - literally! While others were busy fitting in, I was busy doodling on tables and transforming my bedroom walls into a canvas for my wild imagination. If there was no paper in sight, you better believe I’d find a way to make my mark!

AT THE AGE OF 18, with my A-Levels behind me and a head full of dreams, I decided to take a leap into the great unknown. Travel, I thought, was the perfect adventure to help this shy, reserved girl break free from her cocoon. Spoiler alert: it worked!

AFTER A YEAR OF GLOBETROTTING and soaking in breathtaking sunsets, I returned to the UK with a louder personality but still no clue what career path to take.I dabbled in various jobs - from waitressing to being a receptionist and even a PA - but none of them sparked joy. So, I took a step back and returned to my first love: creativity.

I ENROLLED AT MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY to pursue graphic design. While traditional education isn’t my jam, it turned out to be a treasure trove of self-discovery and skill-building. This journey ignited a fiery passion within me to launch my own design business, where I could help others craft stunning visuals and unleash their creativity.

Merch design was something that I came across by accident and fell in love with instantly.

It mixes my love of illustration with wearable apparel but more than that it’s an opportunity to tell a story in the work!

Gone are the days of things just looking cool, people want something that resonates more than just being cool (although that is a bonus)

We want to feel connected to what we wear and have it be our ‘favourite outfit’ every day 🤩

Picture this:
Me, a corporate misfit with zero career roadmap but 100% creative spark.

In 2019, I went rogue.

Bleaching my head and transforming it into a vibrant purple-blue masterpiece.

Spoiler alert: My boss was NOT amused 😬

Suddenly, my technicolor locks became a professional scarlet letter.

Interviews dried up faster than wet paint.

Apparently, my ability to rock a killer hair colour somehow translated to incompetence 🙄

“It’s not professional looking” - What the hell does that even mean?!

Is it:

💼 50 shades of beige?
💼 Suppressing every ounce of personality?

I don’t usually talk about this stuff, and frankly, I don’t know if it’s even welcome.

But I had a surprise call yesterday.

The number wasn’t one I recognised, so when I answered it, I thought it was a scammer.

But after a few questions and a quick Google I realised this is the call I have been waiting over a YEAR for.

Now I know what you’re thinking:
👉🏼 “Who called you? A client? An ex? Betelgeuse? GOD DAMMIT WHO?!”

Well before I go into, I kinda need to confess something.

For years, my mental health has been a rollercoaster.

I’ve masked my struggles and managed to get by, but over the last four years, I’ve felt myself slipping.

It’s one thing to cope; it’s another to be trapped in a loop of wanting to do things but being paralyzed by the idea of starting.

I’m talking about ADHD.

Since childhood, teachers hinted at it, and friends joked about it. But I shrugged it off because I was managing—until a year ago when I realized coping wasn’t enough.

I decided to seek help.

If I could get a medical evaluation, maybe I could finally break free from just coping.

After a long wait, yesterday brought the news: my assessment is booked!

I literally squealed like a kid at Christmas seeing a badly wrapped bicycle wrapped under the Christmas tree (one of my favourite core memories).

I can hardly believe I’ve secured an appointment and taken a step closer to thriving instead of just surviving.

So here’s my message:
If you think coping is enough, it’s not.

Support is out there—grab it! You don’t have to settle for just getting by

A cluttered desk, dust bunnies and random knick-knacks can easily steal my attention.

And let’s not forget my ever-needy dog—the puppy eyes are difficult to resist 🐶

So, before I dive into work, I make sure my desk is spotless and organised.

Only then can I tackle the tasks ahead!

Nothing always goes to plan…

But that’s kinda my style 🤷🏼‍♀️

Instead of going to university at 18, I chose to travel and find out who I am.

(I know I’m a walking cliché)

After years of;
👉🏼 travelling
👉🏼 meeting new people
👉🏼 experimenting with different careers

I decided that going to university was the next step.

Though me and the education system don’t always see eye to eye;
➡️ I leave with a 2:1 Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design.

I think at the end of it all, I met some amazing people, learnt more about my craft and got the value of knowing what it feels like to work on something you love 🥰

Here’s to you @middlesexuniversity and congrats to all the other graduates this week.
